A coalition of consumer advocates, researchers and the Twenty-First Century Captioning Technology, Metrics and Usability project have filed a petition for rule making with the Federal Communications Commission. Our goal is improving live caption quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2014 the FCC issued an order about best practices for caption quality. Unfortunately, live captions still have many problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We ask the FCC to do these things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Start a Notice of Inquiry into caption quality metrics<\/li>
  2. Provide guidance about using Automatic Speech Recognition<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    We look forward to working with all stakeholders on practical consumer-focused caption quality metrics. We also look forward to our research informing the FCC proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
